FAQs: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

For only being a Vegetarian for three months, I've gotten some pretty great questions.  Here are some of my favorite (and their answers to the best of my ability).
  1. What made you want to be a vegetarian?
    • Well, as I stated in my previous post: I watched "If Slaughterhouses had Glass Walls" on PETA's website.  I had been wanting to be a veg for health reasons, but didn't feel like that was enough motivation.  So the video gave me the push to declare vegetarianism.
  2. What do you eat?
    • Food.  Yep, I eat food.  I eat bread, fruit, vegetables, and anything that doesn't have meat in it, which is quite a bit.
  3. How long are you going to be a vegetarian?
    • As long as I want.  Vegetarianism was a choice I made just like eating meat is a choice I may or may not make down the road.  Just so you know, though, I intend on being a veg for a very, very long time.  It's different when you do something for ethical reasons.  Despite being just one person, I'm taking a stand.  My veggie LDRM says "you cast a vote with everything you buy."  So, if I buy meat, I'm saying "Yes, keep killing these animals in cruel, heartless ways to satisfy my gluttony."  In not eating meat, I'm causing them to have one less vote.  Think about it, the average American consumes about 222 pounds of animal meat (not including milk, eggs, cheese, and other by-products) in a year.  Since I'm planning on being Veg for another 60 years, that's 13,320 lbs of meat that will not be eaten.  If the average cow weights 1,660 lbs, I will have saved about 8 cows in my lifetime.  May not sound like a lot, but it's better than being in the negative numbers.
  4. Do you miss meat?
    • When I was trying out Vegetarianism just to try it, I missed meat every single day.  Now, the thought of eating meat literally makes me sick.  So, no, I do not miss meat.
  5. You must like salads a lot, right?
    • Actually, yes.  I do like salads.  But as previously stated, that's not all I eat.  Just like any other human being, I can't survive on salads alone.
I like this blog because it forces me to do some research.  Not only am I saving animals, but I'm becoming educated, too!

Disclaimer

Okay, okay.  I suppose I can't say that I've saved the whole world...yet.

You, faithful follower, are embarking on a journey that will forever be known as "The Veggie Chronicles."  Here, you will find tid-bits of information, tips and tricks, funny stories, and my famous rants.  Don't worry, you'll never be bored (well, I suppose that's something you have to determine on your own).

I used to have an old blog, but I like this one better.  My old one was so serious -- it got depressing after a while.  This blog is dedicated to the lighthearted and not-so-serious-at-all issue known as Vegetarianism!  Yay veggies!

Also, if you have not yet joined the numerous ranks of the Veggies, I want you to know that you are going to hell for the cruelty you have bestowed upon poor, helpless animals.  No, I'm kidding.  I don't judge.  I made a personal decision, and so have you.  Respect: that's what it's all about, baby.

Here's what made me decide to become a Vegetarian:

  1. I wanted to "Meet my Meat" (be careful what you click on!)
  2. I watched the video "If Slaughterhouses had Glass Walls".  I cried.
  3. I decided from that point forward I would quit meat cold turkey.  (Pun fully intended)
I had been thinking about the prospects of becoming Vegetarian before watching that movie (for health benefits and such), but never had the full motivation to be veg.  After watching that movie, my whole life was altered and my point of view was changed.  Proudly I stand and say: "I am a Veg!  I lean toward the light!"

To be honest, I've only been a veg for 3 months, but it's longer than I've ever gone before.  I had tried several times before, but never succeeded because I didn't have the proper motivation.  Now that I am Veg for more than health reasons, it's so easy.  Seriously!  I haven't craved meat once.  It's a lot easier to do something you ethically support.

Now for some pictures of baby animals!!

This is Megan's and my pet duck, Duck.

She waddles and her feet are too big for her body.  She falls over very easily and sometimes gets confused as to who her owners are.  She screams when we're not around.  She's currently going through puberty and has a bad attitude.  And she's learning how to swim.  Our baby's growin' up.
